The Great Anime Marathon of 2020! #66 – #70: How is this so good?

This year is coming to an end and I’m nearing the 200 anime watched mark with a week to go. That means I need to stop neglecting to post these entries and get them done soon before it’s 2022!

The following is a spoiler-free list of anime I’ve seen this year in no particular order:

#66: Welcome to the N.H.K.

This is one of those anime I’ve been meaning to watch in a very long time but never got around to it. Now that I have seen it, I regret not watching it sooner because it is just so damn good.

This is one of those series that has a complete loser for a protagonist, but unlike most of those other series, this one is a lot more real in its portrayal, even with all the wacky antics these characters get up to.

I don’t even want to go into detail about exactly what goes on in this series because it’s better to go on the journey yourself and get right up to the very end of this wild ride of depression in all forms.

#67: The Promised Neverland

This, like many anime is criminally short and only shows you the beginning of the journey. Thankfully, The Promised Neverland is getting a second season, and the first season is a hell of an experience.

I really can’t wait to see where this series goes because the world in which this series is set is a hell of an interesting and scary one for a group of small children to discover. What we see here is only the tip of the iceberg.

#68: Vinland Saga

Another series that ends only when it truly begins! But again, what a hell of a strong beginning! The last episode title literally declares that it’s the end of the prologue.

I don’t know whether Vinland Saga is getting more season, it’d be great if it was, but I am very interested in reading the ongoing manga because it’s a hell of a cool story and journey.

#69: ERASED

This is one of those series that actually is complete and takes you to places you didn’t expect to go. This is no ordinary time travel story, it’s one that actually does surprise you in how the time travel mechanics are used.

It actually is really impressive how much thought was put into the story because it works so well.

#70: The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Finally, another series that is awesome but ends partway through the series due to it catching up to the manga and then losing funding, causing the second season to be only a few episodes.

The characters are great, the story is great, the adventure is great. Absolutely love everything about this series despite the fact that there is no resolution and it leaves you during a climactic moment when all the opposing forces converge.

Again, it’s another situation where I really do need to read the manga which is still ongoing.
