My name is Lynk Former and I’m an X-Wing pilot… at least, that’s part of the origin of the name I came up with for myself. In that spirit, it’s time to take on the Empire in one of my most played games of the mid-90s.
I love the A-Wing, maybe not as much as the X-Wing but it’s still a hell of a starfighter. The B-Wing on the other hand, while it started off interesting, ended up being a nightmare in the end. That whole Death Star run “what if” mission is so damn TERRIBLE!
This episode focuses on the bonus historical missions and uses multiple different starfighter variants. Things were going well, but then halfway through the stream, my area was hit with a power outage and… well… I can’t exactly stream without power.
I was finally able to finish off those historical missions, not that I had any idea at the time because the last historical mission I did seemed to have bugged out (at least that’s what I think). Either way, I moved onto the first tour of duty…
As I play more of this game, I’m really beginning to understand all the small little problems it has that amounts to a great flaw in the game. The first flaw is that 99% of the time, you’re never told if you have failed your mission…
Everything was going so well and then I had to go and forget to enable some hotkeys which would allow me to bypass the whole death/capture state of your pilot and lose your rank in the process. So… I went from being a Captain back down to a Flight Officer, which sucks, but oh well.
It’s taken me a awhile, but I honestly think I’m finally starting to improve with this game… I mean, there have been a few instances where I’ve failed a mission or gotten myself destroyed for really stupid reasons…
My joystick stopped working properly for some reason and it was only yesterday that I discovered that it wasn’t my joystick that was at fault, but my Razer Orbweaver that was spamming inputs whenever I loaded up X-Wing for some odd reason.
Going through Tour of Duty IV and I’m noticing that there are a hell of a lot of escort missions in this expansion… as in, every mission is an escort mission of some kind. Then you have another interesting change during mission 6…
Getting back into the cockpit, I’m starting to pay around with some of the strange tips that the game has been giving me. Who knew that NOT shooting down an enemy ship would help you?
We’re close to the end here with this game, yet still so far… I’m pretty sure I’m on the final missions of Tour IV, but there’s still another full tour of duty to complete after that which will feature plenty of B-Wing action, I’m sure.
