Prometheus is ready to launch!

I’ve been running my current PC for a while now, but there’s so much going on with it that it puts unnecessary overhead when trying to run games. It’s a nice PC, don’t get me wrong, but what I really want is the best performance I can muster.

That’s why, I’ve built a new PC that will stand along side my current PC. To go along with the naming convention, my current PC is called “MACROSS” and the new one has been dubbed “PROMETHEUS” …since it’s the one that will launch all the games.

If any of you have watched Super Dimension Fortress Macross, you’d understand.

So, here we go…

The image above only has some of the components since I lot of what is going into the PC is either custom water loop parts or has not been bought just yet.

What you’re seeing is PROMETHEUS in its phase 1 launch. Let’s take a look at what it has:

CPU: Intel Core i9-10900KF
CPU COOLER: Custom Water Loop that includes EK CoolStream PE 360 Triple Radiator, EK Velocity CPU Waterblock, a number of fittings and black rubber soft tubing*
MOTHERBOARD: Asus ROG Maximus XII Extreme
RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z 16GB DDR4 F4-3600C15D-16GTZ x2, so 4 sticks totaling 32GB

GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 XC GAMING**

PSU: Corsair AX1000
CUSTOM CABLES: CableMod PRO ModMesh cables in red and black

OS DRIVE: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

CASE: Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL (Black)

* This custom water loop is “unfinished” as it only has the CPU in the loop so far. Once I get a new GPU, I’ll be including that into the loop along with using hard tubing.

** This is a temporary GPU that came from MACROSS. I’m using dual Strix RTX 2060 EVO’s in MACROSS now and I’ll be upgrading the PROMETHEUS graphics card to a Strix RTX 3090 whenever I can get my hands on one.

I’ve had this O11 Dynamic XL sitting around for months now and it’s only recently that I finally got the chance to buy all the parts and get building. Though, it’s going to take a little while to complete considering I can’t get all the parts at the moment due to them not being available yet.

However, the important part about this build is this: It’s 100% gaming focused and will do nothing else!

Since this is 100% gaming focused, I’ve decided that I would not have too many RGB elements in this build. Though, there will be a little bit of lighting, mostly just the case itself and the graphics card at the moment. In the future, I’ll be getting a hardware controller to allow for the parts of the water loop to light up too. However, the motherboard itself won’t have its lights on since that would require software control, which I don’t want.

Here it is all lit up, though, I’ve since turned off those motherboard lights.

The other thing of note is that I’ve sourced really cheap fans for the build which are pretty bad. They’re basically just fans from other cases I’ve bought that I never used because… they’re cheap case fans no one uses!

They will be replaced once I get the build’s phase 2 completed, though that will be at the end of the year. Phase 2 will include the new fans along with a Strix RTX 3090 and a complete custom water loop with hard tubing which will including another radiator at the bottom of the case. It’s going to be great once it’s done.

For now, this is good enough for Star Wars: Squadrons and Genshin Impact… as for Cyberpunk 2077… I won’t be starting that until I can get the 3090 at the very least. I want to be able to play that game with the best graphics I can muster.

Check back to see how PROMETHEUS is going to look once I get it completed!
