Nevermind that last entry… The renewal of Star Wars: The Old Republic

Well, this is interesting… after writing the last entry I went to sleep thinking that in the morning I’d wake up and uninstall Star Wars: The Old Republic and that would be the end of that.

Today I woke up and decided that before I uninstalled the game I’d take one last look at my toons to see how many of them would lose their identities. I was ready for the worst…

What I found was surprising, extremely surprising in fact. Despite all of the toons that were on all of the various servers on the US west coast being merged into a single super server for PvE players, the names I would have lost in the character transfers if I had taken part a few months back were now mine to keep.

Lynk, Silvana, Priss, Fiora, Dunban, Zelgius and Micaiah all got to keep their names. The only one not so lucky was Ashnard, my Sith Assassin. I looked at my character select screen and thought “you know what, I can live with this”… If it had been one of the other characters I would have quit then and there and uninstalled the game, but with Ashnard, I decided to make a compromise.

It took me an hour or so of going through various alternative names I could think of that would fit the character I had created, all of which were already taken… until I finally decided to rename him to Azhnard. I hate accented letters and after going through various alternative names that didn’t quite fit, I decided a letter substitution would work best.

So how was I able to keep all of the other names? According to BioWare there were several conditions that were taken into consideration when they wrote the program that would determine who got to keep their names and who had to rename. One of the factors was the amount of time played a particular toon had clocked up as well as “various other factors”… I’m willing to bet it’s also the fact that I created my toons during early access and that I also have the Collector’s Edition.

Whatever the reasons are, I’m glad I stuck to my guns and stayed on Vornskr. Had I transferred my toons over to The Harbinger all those months ago with the rest of the population, I would have lost a lot more than one name. It’s a good thing I didn’t cave in and stayed as stubborn as I was for all this time. feelsgoodman.jpg
